Values are the principles, beliefs or rules that support how you live your life. Values are that which is desirable or worthy of esteem for its own sake and define "who you are"... not "who you want to be". Honoring your values impacts the quality of your life. Clarifying and applying them in your life is an on-going process. This exercise assists you in clarifying or "reminding" you what values are important to you.
Identify a time when life was good. Good times. Sweet times. A special moment.
Look underneath/behind your experience.
What were you valuing?
(Examples: connection, affection, comfort)
Identify a time when you were very upset. Angry. Frustrated. Helpless. Cornered. Trapped. No choice.
Turn it over/ flip it. What is the opposite of those feelings? (Examples: freedom, choice, clarity).
What do you ALWAYS have handled? (Examples: loyalty, fun)
When I am honoring this, I am more alive, energized. (Examples: integrity, partnership)
What MUST you have in your life? (examples: humor, joy)
Oh, you're just such a......? (Identify extremes. Example: perfectionist)
Now turn it around. What else could it represent? (Example: excellence, quality, accuracy)
